Route Roadies, start your engines!
The plan is to return to Route 66 in 2025 to launch book one, and then go again during the Route 66 Centennial in 2026! Small towns and cities are preparing for the 100th-year celebration of America’s Main Street. Foreign and domestic travelers will mark the miles on this historic journey.
I’ve got to be there.
Why? Research, of course. How do you write a series about The Road of Dreams when you’re nowhere near it? You rely on memories, notes, and pictures. But it’s not the same as being there, experiencing the attractions firsthand and soaking in the atmosphere that will inform my stories. Besides, memories fade. Notes are often incomplete. Photos don’t capture the whole picture.
That’s why I’m returning to The Mother Road.
Things have settled down after five years of dreaming, injuries, family health scares, several losses, and questioning my author’s purpose. Funny how life takes its turns. But I’m ready now. Mr. Embers is ready. The pups have no idea what’s coming.
And this time, we’re taking our RV—but not the 5th Wheel. We’ll be hitting the road in our new-to-us Pioneer Sport travel trailer, perfectly sized for navigating the historic route and getting into those smaller attractions that inspired my series.
This blog predates my newsletter, where I’ll share more about our newest road family member with my readers. In June, I restart my Spooky Specters Crew newsletter with real news, and I’m beyond excited.
We’re saving up for our next Route 66 trip. If all goes well, I will have hit publish on book one—possibly in the very California Route 66 Museum in Victorville that inspired the series—and we’ll be hitting the road for the ultimate research adventure.
Because it’s truly Route 66 or Bust!
